Free expansion of lowest Landau level states of trapped atoms: a wavefunction microscope
We show that for any lowest-Landau-level state of a trapped, rotating,
interacting Bose gas, the particle distribution in coordinate space in a free
expansion (time of flight) experiment is related to that in the trap at the
time it is turned off by a simple rescaling and rotation. When the
lowest-Landau-level approximation is valid, interactions can be neglected
during the expansion, even when they play an essential role in the ground state
when the trap is present. The correlations in the density in a single snapshot
can be used to obtain information about the fluid, such as whether a transition

4f spin density in the reentrant ferromagnet SmMn2Ge2
The spin contribution to the magnetic moment in SmMn2Ge2 has been measured by
magnetic Compton scattering in both the low and high temperature ferromagnetic
phases. At low temperature, the Sm site is shown to possess a large 4f spin
moment of 3.4 +/- 0.1 Bohr magnetons, aligned antiparallel to the total
magnetic moment. At high temperature, the data show conclusively that ordered

Comparing different freeze-out scenarios in azimuthal hadron correlations induced by fast partons
I review the linearized hydrodynamical treatment of a fast parton traversing
a perturbative quark-gluon plasma. Using numerical solutions for the medium's
response to the fast parton, I obtain the medium's distribution function which
is then used in a Cooper-Frye freeze-out prescription to obtain an azimuthal
particle spectrum. Two different freeze-out scenarios are considered which
yield significantly different results. I conclude that any meaningful
comparison of azimuthal hadron correlation functions to RHIC data requires

Continuity theorems for the queueing system
In this paper continuity theorems are established for the number of losses
during a busy period of the queue. We consider an queueing
system where the service time probability distribution, slightly different in a
certain sense from the exponential distribution, is approximated by that
exponential distribution. Continuity theorems are obtained in the form of one
or two-sided stochastic inequalities. The paper shows how the bounds of these
inequalities are changed if further assumptions, associated with specific
properties of the service time distribution (precisely described in the paper),
are made. Specifically, some parametric families of service time distributions
are discussed, and the paper establishes uniform estimates (given for all
possible values of the parameter) and local estimates (where the parameter is
fixed and takes only the given value). The analysis of the paper is based on
the level crossing approach and some characterization properties of the

Anomalous c-axis charge dynamics in copper oxide materials
Within the t-J model, the c-axis charge dynamics of the copper oxide
materials in the underdoped and optimally doped regimes is studied by
considering the incoherent interlayer hopping. It is shown that the c-axis
charge dynamics is mainly governed by the scattering from the in-plane
fluctuation. In the optimally doped regime, the c-axis resistivity is a linear
in temperatures, and shows the metallic-like behavior for all temperatures,
while the c-axis resistivity in the underdoped regime is characterized by a
crossover from the high temperature metallic-like behavior to the low
temperature semiconducting-like behavior, which are consistent with experiments

Microscopic Theory of the Reentrant IQHE in the First and Second Excited LLs
We present a microscopic theory for the recently observed reentrant integral
quantum Hall effect in the n=1 and n=2 Landau levels. Our energy investigations
indicate an alternating sequence of M-electron-bubble and quantum-liquid ground
states in a certain range of the partial filling factor of the n-th level.
Whereas the quantum-liquid states display the fractional quantum Hall effect,
the bubble phases are insulating, and the Hall resistance is thus quantized at

The position of graptolites within Lower Palaeozoic planktic ecosystems.
An integrated approach has been used to assess the palaeoecology of graptolites both as a discrete group and also as a part of the biota present within Ordovician and Silurian planktic realms. Study of the functional morphology of graptolites and comparisons with recent ecological analogues demonstrates that graptolites most probably filled a variety of niches as primary consumers, with modes of life related to the colony morphotype. Graptolite coloniality was extremely ordered, lacking any close morphological analogues in Recent faunas. To obtain maximum functional efficiency, graptolites would have needed varying degrees of coordinated automobility. A change in lifestyle related to ontogenetic changes was prevalent within many graptolite groups. Differing lifestyle was reflected by differing reproductive strategies, with synrhabdosomes most likely being a method for rapid asexual reproduction. Direct evidence in the form of graptolithophage 'coprolitic' bodies, as well as indirect evidence in the form of probable defensive adaptations, indicate that graptolites comprised a food item for a variety of predators. Graptolites were also hosts to a variety of parasitic organisms and provided an important nutrient source for scavenging organisms
Exclusion Statistics of Quasiparticles in Condensed States of Composite Fermion Excitations
The exclusion statistics of quasiparticles is found at any level of the
hierarchy of condensed states of composite fermion excitations (for which
experimental indications have recently been found). The hierarchy of condensed
states of excitations in boson Jain states is introduced and the statistics of
quasiparticles is found. The quantum Hall states of charged -anyons
